Malnutrition is not a word that is often discussed in the UK, and if it is most people would automatically think of third world countries and starving children, but it’s actually a big problem here in the UK too. Whether it’s because they’re ill, unable to move around in their own home, or simply don’t know how to cook, up to a million elderly people in this country are not getting the good square meal they need everyday, and are becoming malnourished.
We have taken an in-depth look at this hidden health issue, how it is affecting older people and why some community groups have now taken things into their own hands, tackling malnutrition head on to make sure no elderly person is left to suffer alone.
