AFC Bournemouth will host their south coast rivals Southampton FC in a pre-season friendly next month.
The Cherries will take on The Saints on Friday, July 25th at the Goldsands Stadium, a week before Premier League outfit Swansea City visit the Championship side.
The already fierce rivalry could take another interesting twist, after Cherries boss Eddie Howe has been linked with the vacant managerial position at Southampton.
Ex-Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino has taken over at Tottenham Hotspur, and Bournemouth legend Howe has been strongly backed to take the helm at Southampton, who finished 8th in the Premier League last season, their highest finish since 2003.
Howe gained praise for leading the Cherries to a 10th place finish in the Championship last season, in their first spell in England’s second division after 2013’s promotion from League 1.
There have also been shake-ups to both teams already this summer, with Cherries’ star striker Lewis Grabban just completing a move to Norwich, and Southampton hitman Rickie Lambert moving to Liverpool.
