The charity was founded 50 years ago by Margaret Green with the help of her father Jerry Green, both devoted animal lovers. The charity is the oldest in Dorset and has three centre’s across Dorset and Devon these being- Lincoln Farm, Church Knowle, and Wingletang Rescue. Each centre cares for abandoned, unwanted, and ill-treated animals, from farmyard to domestic, with the hope of finding them a loving forever home.
Margaret Green dedicated her life’s work to the charity, and it has been continued by wonderful staff and trustees. They continue to work hard in hope of providing each and every animal that comes into their home with the love and care they deserve.
Jerry Green, founder of the Jerry Green foundation trust, supported a Dog sanctuary in Lincolnshire, however was dissatisfied with the number of animal rescue centre’s available in Dorset. Both Margaret and Jerry in 1965 setup Margaret Green Animal Rescue in Church Knowle for abandoned and unwanted animals in order to provide care and a re-homing service. The charity steadily stretched to other area’s of Dorset and Devon.
They now take in and care for over 1,200 animals a year. They save lives, re-home, and rehabilitate animals of all ages with the hope of them finally being adopted into a loving family. Both Margaret and Jerry’s aspiration of more animal aid in Dorset has blossomed greatly with the help of fundraisers, volunteers and donations from the public. This will hopefully continue to grow for the foreseeable future.
