The Big Gift Wrap
Students and local residents of Bournemouth took part in a 5 minute wrapping challenge set up by Experience Days, known as the ‘Big Gift Wrap’, at Citygate Church on Friday 4th December in an aim to beat the world record which remains in America.
A crowd of 280 people, consisting mainly of students, took part in wrapping presents that were donated to the children’s charity, Barnardo’s.
Bournemouth University student, Megan Fairbrother (18), said: “The event was still successful even though we didn’t manage to break the world record
“Although free mince pies and champagne were used as an incentive, its still overwhelming how many people turned up to support the charity event”
In the end, a total of 400 presents were wrapped and sent to Barnado’s where they will be distributed to disadvantaged children and families.
The organiser of the event, Robb Young, from Experience Days summed up the event as being about ‘giving back’ and ‘embracing Christmas spirit.’
Future of Bournemouth charity events
The success of the Big Gift Wrap sheds light on future acts of charity within the Bournemouth area. Students who attended the event have expressed their interest in further acts of charity that involve the community.
Student, Jesse Brown (20), said: “The gift wrap showed how we are capable of coming together for charity
“There are so many other charities we could help”
Donations to Barnardo;s can be made on their website: barnardos.org.uk or at Charity shops near you.
