Dorset Police are warning pensioners to ‘hang up on fraudsters’ and have taken to Twitter to express their concern.
This comes after telephone fraudsters are targeting Dorset residents by tricking elderly people into transferring money to a fake bank account or sending it via courier.
Dorset Police have asked people on social media to look out for their loved ones and tell them to never give out bank details over the phone.
They have released advice on how to protect yourself from criminals, including:
- never give out your pin number or bank details to anyone who calls you, no matter who they claim to be, or where they claim to be from
- never send cash in a taxi or via courier
- never send bank cards anywhere -always keep them with you
They are warning the public that the police or any bank official, will never ask for your account details over the phone.
