The trust are looking to further educate their staff on the importance of BSL interpreters for deaf patients at The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals.
Research by the Trust’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) staff has shown that even though the service has been available for years, it has not been used to its full potential and is not fully utilised. This is due to patients not wanting to be an inconvenience to staff and also the misconceptions on how deaf people may wish to communicate with others.
The campaign set up by the team at PALS works to raise awareness on the importance of the service to make sure patients take advantage of the interpreter service. New posters are being made to help educate staff as well as other resources to ensure the service is used with all deaf patients.
