Superheroes unite! CLIC Sargent are hosting the first ever superhero abseil, down the magnificent St Peters Church.
The abseiling event will take place on the 19th of March at 9am, running throughout the day, with last abseils finishing at 5pm.
A hefty 60 people are expected to take part in the abseil itself, with many friends and family accompanying in support.
CLIC Sargent provide clinical, practical and emotional support for the young children and their families diagnosed with cancer.
According to latest statistics provided by CLIC, every day 10 children receive the heartbreaking news they have cancer, making fundraising events such as this even more important.
Fundraising manager for CLIC Sargent, Miss Joy Morley emphasised the need of the Homes from Home: “A lot of our families have said it is a life line because they meet a lot of other families there. It provides a network and a platform to meet other people in similar situations.”
The charity are asking for a minumum pledge of £150 which will pay for four families to stay over night in one of CLIC Sargent’s eight Homes from Home, ensuring that families can stay close to their children during treatment.
Miss Morley added: “We try and support families through cancer diagnosis to make their lives feel liable and to allow them to live their lives to the full.”
Entertainment throughout the day will include motivational music from the St Peter’s church choir, a young peoples workshop, with refreshments also being provided by the church volunteers.
Also attending, will be the ‘Reel Icons‘. The movie sections of the UK Garrison (UKG) who are a principal Star Wars costuming group in the UK and are renowned for its dedication to fundraising for charities.
Matthew Mainwaring, head of Reel Icons said: “Reel Icons is founded on helping out charitable causes, CLIC Sargent being no exception. We are delighted to provide characters for the Bournemouth Abseil, spending the day interacting with guests. Here’s to an awesome day and lots of money raised.”
The event is open to all ages and no prior experience is necessary, as all training and kit will be provided on the day.
