A mystery black wooden box was found washed up on Boscombe beach this morning, leaving residents questioning what could be inside.
The box was discovered around 7.30am near to Boscombe Pier.
It is approximately 4ft x 3ft x 2ft and covered in goose barnacles.

Despite the imagination of some members of the public, the coastguard rescue team later revealed the contents to be nothing more than foam.
The team presume the box was part of a pontoon that broke away.

The council have now removed the box.
