Jon is a student that admits he has suffered from gaming addiction in the past. He was addicted to League of Legends- a multiplayer online battle arena video game.
“I started playing League of legends in 2012 then stopped in 2013, then picked it back up again in 2015.
I spent £1,600 on accessories for the game, such as skins and champions that you need. Otherwise you can’t play them.”
Jon’s most valuable skin (decorative armor which his army wears in the game) is called “Hextechannie” an asset which he believes to be worth £400 in the game.
He has spent approximately 2,200 hours playing the game.
“I always think that next year I will stop playing but it never happens and I keep playing the game for fun and a time killer.” He added
Jon plays for the University’s varsity team; he said
“I have a mixed opinion about playing for the Uni, I like the idea of playing in a competitive team however the game is childish so I am quite reserved about people knowing because it is embarrassing.
I get a few cheeky jokes here and there to try and embarrass me from friends.”
Jon is no longer has a gaming addiction, he now plays the game a lot less frequently.
“I played the game every day when I was addicted, now I only play it a couple of times a week.
I feel what stopped my gaming addiction was going out more to party’s and clubs with my friends.”
