I spoke to 20-year-old Jacqueline Singer, from Bournemouth, who was conceived using an anonymous sperm donor to a single mother. She says that she was told about her conception when she was “ridiculously young.”
“I know that I was told about my conception when I was ridiculously young, and I knew I was different in school, when only my Mum would come to pick me up, but I was never upset about not having a Dad. I had some male figures in my life whilst growing up, like my Grandpa and my Uncle.”
Jacqueline’s Mum decided to conceive alone due to her wanting a child more than wanting a relationship or husband, so she used an anonymous sperm donor to conceive.
“I don’t feel being fatherless has changed me and I don’t really have any intention on meeting my donor. I know a couple of things about him, and have met my half brother through the Donor Sibling Registry. I met my sibling when I was 13 and I remember being so excited to meet him, however when we actually met it was weird and it just felt like we were two complete strangers.”
Jacqueline shares more of her story in the Q & A below.
