Do you think the number of homeless people in Bournemouth is rising?
George Rhodes, Bournemouth: “There has definitely been a rise in the number of rough sleepers. I don’t live in Bournemouth, however have been coming here for many years now as it’s a lovely town. When I used to come here many years ago I would never notice many homeless, but now a homeless person will approach you any time you walk through the town.”
What do you believe is the main reason for there being a lot of homeless in Bournemouth?
“likely to be more help for them”
Chandler Goddard, Bournemouth: “Well, homeless people are going to be attracted to a busy lively town such as Bournemouth. Not only is there a higher footfall and opportunity to get given money, but also there is more likely to be more help for them, such as shelters and food banks.”
Mr Goddard also added “I believe Bournemouth Borough Council do as much as they can to help the situation.”
Have you ever been approached by a homeless person whilst being in town? And if so what do they say?
Mollie Emblazon, Bournemouth: “I’m a first year student at Bournemouth University, so I’ve only been living in Bournemouth for 3 months. But one of the first things my friends and I noticed when we moved here is how many people were sleeping rough. Some ask for money when you walk past. But always seem friendly and calm. If you don’t have money to give the they just walk away.”
