What was your decision for wanting to open up a cafe that allows people to play board games?
The simple answer is that we are passionate about games! There are so many fantastic and creative games out there that not everyone knows about.
I love sharing them and seeing that moment when someone masters a move, or pulls off a carefully planned strategy and realises how much fun games can be.
Playing games is a great way to spend quality time with family and friends, make new friends and can even be a great ice breaker on a first date.
We wanted to create a space in Bournemouth where people can spend time together and have fun over games.
Do you feel as though there was a market for something quite niche in the area?
We had the idea for Coffee & Dice in August 2014 and since then have been researching and testing the market to check there was appetite for this.
We have spoken to an independent coffee shop consultancy to review our business plan, done our own surveys for research and run several successful pop up events to test the market.
In your opinion, do you think that there is a growing market for all things game related in Bournemouth?
I think board and card games are a growing industry across the whole market, not just in Bournemouth.
Market research group NPD has recorded a 20% rise during the past year in the sales of tabletop games. Esdevium Games (UK games distributor) estimates that growth at closer to 35% based on their sales.
