Southend coach Phil Brown has been told AFC Bournemouth are interested in signing youngster Jack Bridge.
Bridge is training with the Cherries for a few days after the club contacted the 21-year-old’s agent about a possible move to the South-Coast.
Despite only making seven appearances for the Shrimpers this season, it is understood Bournemouth were alerted to Bridge during his two-year spell on loan with Chelmsford.
“Jack’s agent has told us that he’s better than what we have in the team at the moment,” said Brown.
“Apparently Bournemouth are interested in signing him so he’s going to be spending the next few days with them.”
He added: “It might be a rude awakening for Jack going there or maybe Bournemouth will see something I don’t, I’m not sure.”
AFC Bournemouth are yet to sign a player this January and a reported loan deal for Chelsea’s Asmir Begovic could depend on whether the London club can find a quick replacement.
