Starting a course of antidepressants can be daunting and cause uncertain side effects, coming off of the drugs can be just as hard.
Just Like A Pill spoke with James Moore who recently found it difficult withdrawing from his anxiety and depression medication. As a result, James started a petition calling for pharmaceutical companies to create drug tapering kits. These kits will help people to safely come off of their antidepressants and help to prevent any withdrawal symptoms.
Listen to the interview with James about his experience coming off of antidepressants and his work towards introducing drug tapering kits.
Just Like A Pill have contacted various pharmaceutical companies to see if they are willing to create drug tapering kits; however have not received a response. Despite this James has received a range of support from people that work at pharmaceutical companies for example one person commented on his petition saying “I’m signing because I work for the pharmaceutical industry and have knowledge of these drugs. This idea makes enormous sense to me and would give me pride in my industry.” However all of the support from pharmaceutical workers has been anonymous.
James is hoping that his petition will lead to a change in legislation and is concentrating on getting support from GPs, psychiatrists and pharmacists.
