Arts University Bournemouth aren’t short of successful and well-known alumni.
Rhyannan Hall, a Costume and Performance Design graduate, will be joining an Oscar-winning screenwriter, a critically acclaimed photographer and a comedian as a successful AUB alumni.
Despite only graduating in 2014, Rhyannan has already achieved more than she would have hoped when starting her degree.
She’s recently finished work as a costume dyer and breakdown artist on upcoming TV drama ‘Will‘, a programme which tells the early story of William Shakespeare’s London theatre beginnings.
“I got the role as a trainee. I was getting paid to get trained by some of the best in the industry. I spent a long time fine-tuning my skill set to cater for that kind of role.
“It was my job to help all the colours of the costumes correspond with the vision and ideas of the designer.”
She identified learning the art of self-preservation and self-belief as the most valuable thing she learnt for herself while on her degree.
“Nobody can give you a map of uncharted territory. Your path is your path.”
Right now, Rhyannan is working with one of her favourite musicians.
“They head-hunted me for my skills with dye. I’ve been listening to their music since I was 15 or 16.
“I couldn’t believe it when they called me up and said they wanted to work with me. I still can’t believe I’m getting paid to hang out with them and do cool stuff with dye and textiles.”
She refers to her time at AUB as ‘the best thing she ever did’ and advises students studying now to join a union, band together with other freelancers and to be educated in the world of business.
