The Mourning After is an investigative radio documentary and multimedia project raising awareness about post-traumatic stress in abortion. It unwraps the experience of two young girls who suffer from post abortion trauma and touches on the debate about whether or not post abortion trauma really exists.
Nobody can predict how someone will feel after an abortion no matter how certain they were of their decision. Every woman’s experience is unique. Some may feel a sense of relief and others may regret their decision right away. Some women have deep feelings of regret and others may not feel much at all. Yes, it’s true individuals post abortion can have a variety of positive and negative emotions but no sound evidence suggests that having an abortion itself can lead to psychological harm. It is argued that “if severe reaction were common, there would be an epidemic of women seeking treatment” the reality is that whether it appears to affect 100 or 1000 people post abortion trauma exists.
