A new £4 million art gallery, which would include a tourist information centre and a restaurant could be built in Sherborne, Dorset.
Sherborne Community Arts Centre Trust hopes to create the venue behind the town’s Paddock Gardens.
Plans for the gallery were originally formed in 2009 after the Sherborne Community Arts Centre Trust was created in order to raise the £4 million required to build the gallery. However a temporary halt was made on the galleries development in 2014, due to the small chance of raising funds.
The venue would include three gallery spaces, a coffee shop and a sensory memory garden.
The main entrance to the venue, which would be built through Paddock Gardens is currently owned by the town council. Its construction would mean removing one of its stone walls.
Sherborne Town Council wants a public consultation to be held over the proposed plans.
The council will meet later to discuss the plans in a bid to set up the public consultation at Digby Hall on Hound Street.
It is estimated the gallery could attract between 50,000 and 80,000 visitors a year if successful.
