Outside half, Joe Gwyther, is left out of the Bournemouth RFC squad as they host top of the table Dings Crusaders this Saturday, despite a solid game at Cleve last week.
The game finished in a nail biting 28-25 victory to Cleve however Gwyther performed well. The ex England U16 had played the first two games of the season in the second team and finally got his chance when Adam Davies pulled out with a hamstring injury. BUzz has spoken with Gwyther who believes he played well at Cleve.
Gwyther had been training hard and was hopeful he would have retained his place in the first team following last weeks performance.
However, Director of Rugby, Will Croker, has picked Davies despite only just returning from injury.
Davies has played four out of five games for Bournemouth this season and has consistently performed well being awarded man of the match in the season opener against Newbury Blues.
Gwyther expressed his disappointment in being left out and thought he may have done enough to keep his place in the first team..
..but he understands why the decision has been made and talks of his intent to bounce back.
Dings are unbeaten so far this season and sit at the top of the South West Premier table, they travel to Chapel Gate this Saturday where Bournemouth will hope to cause an upset and put an end to Dings’ success.
Bournemouth have won three out of five of their games this season and are sat in the middle of the table but boss Croker has said the players “know there is much more to come.”
We asked Gwyther whether he believes Bournemouth have the ability and the character to bounce back from last weeks loss and deliver a victory over their Bristolian rivals.
Bournemouth take on Dings Crusaders on Saturday 7th October at 15:00 at Chapel Gate.
