Poole Borough council have revealed the development of the new retail and leisure centre. The £134m build will provide new homes and jobs for the residents of Poole.
A hotel, leisure centre, swimming pool and over 400 homes are amongst some of the proposed ideas for the development.
This comes after the recent statistics from the Department for Communities and local Government, stating that there has been a 60% rise in empty homes in Poole.
The Heart of Poole scheme also aims to improve public transport and connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians whilst considering whether to remodel or remove the bus station and the multi-storey car park.
The main redevelopment takes place in the area known as Town centre North. Poole borough council said:
“Creating jobs in the centre that are sustainable will greatly benefit the local economy”.
A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday the 5th to discuss the next steps in the redevelopment.
The council have said that they wish to continue to provide improved and sustainable modes of transport in order to reduce congestion and give pedestrians and cyclists priority.
They hope to join in partnership with the owners of the Dolphin centre to get funding to create updated open spaces and a café culture that supports family days out.
