Bournemouth played a very tough game against top Contender Manchester United, conceding to a 1-0 loss at Old Trafford. Cherries Winger Ryan Fraser made a great effort across goal against United Keeper David De Gea at the helm of the premier league’s top stoppers. However, a goal from the Red Devil’s Striker Romelu Lukaku’s header, from a masterfully curled in cross from midfielder Juan Mata in the 25th minute solidified United’s performance throughout the match.
This was not helped by a powerful shot from young prospect Marcus Rashford, whose attempted luckily only rattled Bournemouth’s left post. Striker Jermain Defoe had a very close range shot against De Gea, who saved the chance to deny Bournemouth from reducing the score deficit. There is great credit to go toward Bournemouth however, as they challenged a Manchester United side who were without the suspended Paul Pogba, injured centre half Eric Bailly, and Zlatan Ibrahimović, who remained on the bench for the entire match.
Unfortunately, this poor result puts Bournemouth FC just above the relegation by a mere two points. The Cherries manager Eddie Howe in a post-match interview said that “We deserved a lot more than we got today”. Howe continued with “We started the game really brightly, and disappointed with the goal we conceded, and that we didn’t get the reward of the win.” Bournemouth must do well to recover their form in their next Premier League, and EFL Cup fixtures against top sides Liverpool, Chelsea and United once more.
