Christchurch manager, Ollie Cherrett, stated in his post-match interview against Hamble that he is “very proud” with his players and there were many positives to take from their defeat.
The Dorset side took their opponents to a penalty shoot-out after being level at 2-2 for 120 minutes. Hamble are a division above Cherrett’s men, and were expected to roll over the underdogs.
Goals from James King and Josh Kirkham for Christchurch levelled the scoreline but their manager claims they did “enough to win the game” and that taking the game to penalties is a ‘lottery’.
Despite exiting two cup competitions in two weeks, Cherrett told BUzz “our priority right from day one was to get promoted, and win the league”.
Christchurch FC will be hosting Ringwood Town for their next fixture on Saturday, where a win could take them to the top of the division.
