The Jurassic Coast Raptors are celebrating a successful series of rookie events ahead of their 2019 season.
The Dorchester based American Football team held three separate rookie nights throughout November attracting around 30 new comers per session.
Raptors Chairman and Head Coach Bill Heinrich said: “We had people from all over Dorset that are new to the sport, some that have come from rugby backgrounds. We got some lads that have come from the local army camps. We also had some guys that have played before that have just moved to the area.
“It’s definitely been our best attended events so far which is fantastic. There’s new venues and more players in the team which gives us the expectation of more success than we’ve had up to this point.”
The Raptors currently have around 30 players on their roster but are looking to accommodate up to 60 ahead of next season.
Dorchester Town Football Club will host the Raptors home games for next year’s campaign. The team already train at the Clayson Stadium every Wednesday and Friday from 8-10pm.
The Raptors will play an eight game season in the British American Football Association, Southern Conference of Division Two.
They will play local rivals the Bournemouth Bobcats as well as teams from Swindon, London and Hastings.
The season will run from the 14th April to the 4th August, 2019.
Players must be at least 18 to join. Anyone looking to get involved should contact the Raptors via their official website.
