Dorset Police have been campaigning online about ‘sexting’ and why not to press send without considering the consequences first.
It is illegal to send, distribute or possess sexual images of someone who is under 18, even yourself.
Sexting can range from sending someone you know or don’t know a provocative text or image. Once the image is sent, you no longer have control over it. If you fall out with the person you sent these messages to it can end with devestating consequences such as bullying, blackmail and emotional distress.
I spoke to Bournemouth University’s PC Andy Scarratt about what advice he can give us if it all goes wrong.
Here is further information focusing on the topic (made for TV).
