Fan Media: Changing the voice of football

December 13, 2018 //  by JoelGriffiths//  Leave a Comment

As social media has risen to prominence in football, so has fan media.

What is fan media? Generally speaking independent, amateur content that reports, analyses or interviews a fanbase in relation to their club’s performance. For the fans, produced by fans.

The rise has somewhat mirrored the growing commercialisation of Premier League football. In a landscape where money talks, to what extent can fan media give a voice back to the match-going fan?

This is a short documentary produced as a final year project exploring fan media and what impact it has had on who can talk about Premier League Football in the media sphere.

This is my major multimedia project. The documentary has been produced to be uploaded on the Copa 90 YouTube channel. This is a format which is known for having short, exciting fast paced documentaries. They’re target audience is 16-24 year old football fans, which is perfect for the content of this investigation.
