A MURDER investigation is underway after a 20-year-old man died of stab wounds in Bournemouth.

Officers were called to the scene in St. Swithun’s Road at 10.10pm on Saturday after reports of the man sustaining stab wounds to his chest. He was later taken to hospital where he died a short time after.

An 18-year-old Bournemouth man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is now helping police with their enquiries. The victim’s next of kin have been informed and the coroner has been notified.

A full investigation is underway led by detectives from Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT).

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Dixey, of the MCIT, said: “We are making extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

“I am appealing for anyone who has witnessed the alleged assault and has not yet spoken to police to please come forward.”

A cordon has been put in place while police investigators examine the scene. A forensics tent can be seen near the Bournemouth Pizza Co.

Officers are also carrying out house-to-house visits and making CCTV enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk, via email 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting incident number 16:433. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
