CBD – scientifically known as Cannabidiol – is a chemical found in cannabis and can be used medically to relieve pain and anxiety.
Professor Mike Barnes is a medical cannabis expert who has educated patients and clinicians about medical cannabis throughout his career.
He said: “The sales trajectory for CBD are going up” and added that the Coronavirus pandemic may have fuelled demand as people feel more anxious.
He mentions early research from Canada which has suggested that CBD may have an impact on Covid-19 by decreasing the amount of virus cells in the body.

Professor Barnes suggests that these findings may be another reason for the increasing demand.
There are hopes that the cannabis industry will provide more jobs for the UK and generate tax from products as the demand increases.
This could be a welcome boost for the economy of the country following on from Brexit and the coronavirus pandemic.
