According to the Financial Times, there are approximately 5m self-employed people in the UK. People who are self-employed have been found to be some of the hardest hit during the pandemic. This has pushed many families into poverty.
Donna Bramich, 43 from West Sussex and Steve Lowry, 40, from Hampshire said: “I fear that the lockdowns are perhaps doing as much damage to people’s mental health as the virus itself.”
Donna explains how she struggled as someone who is self employed with hardly any money to pay for things like housing and how people in similar positions are worried they won’t have their jobs after lockdown.
