Alton ends Christchurch’s Six-game Unbeaten Run

Christchurch saw a man sent off as their six game unbeaten run came to a dramatic end against Alton at the M.A. Hart stadium last night.

Church found themselves going ahead within three minutes, with a penalty from talisman Eder Batista.

However, Alton soon equalised with a free kick that hit the palm of the Christchurch keeper on the way in.

The home side then regained the lead in the second half, with Batista adding his second of the match and 15th of the season.

However, Church saw a man sent off for a reckless foul and Alton smashed home the equaliser and scored what proved to be the match winner five minutes later.

Despite Alton having a man advantage, Christchurch were constantly knocking on the door for a late equaliser.

They weren’t wasteful with possession and looked dangerous on every counter, particularly down the left side of the pitch where a number of fouls were won in the first half.

However, Alton proved too much for the Hurn Bridge boys and used their extra man to their advantage, as they smashed home the winner.

With this result, Christchurch stay in 18th in the Wessex League Premier Division, whereas Alton move up to ninth.

Next up for Christchurch is an away game to Bournemouth Poppies, on the 25th January.
