England’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Professor Sir Jonathan Van-Tam, has resigned from his position this morning.
The leader on health protection has run for 5 years since he was appointed in October 2017.
Professor Jonathan Van-Tam has been a key member during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, tweeted he was “honoured” to work with Professor Sir Jonathan Van-Tam.
Honoured to have been asked to serve as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care at this critical time.
I look forward to contributing to our fight against the pandemic, and serving my country from the Cabinet once again.
