Wimborne Model Town Celebrates its 70 Year Anniversary

January 13, 2022 //  by Lizzie Curzen//  Leave a Comment

Wimborne Model Town has reached its 70 year milestone and will be closing until April for winter refurbishments.

These will include the addition of an even smaller model town- a model of the model, which will be one tenth of the size of the current version.

Nick Clark, manager of Wimborne Model Town and Gardens, said: “We’re very excited about the model town of the model town coming in and the way we have progressed over the years.”

He added: “To still be here after 70 years is absolutely fantastic.”

Nick explained that the model town is refurbished every year and is run completely by a team of 70-80 volunteers.

Covid-19 has also had an affect on the model town, with a surge of visitors during lockdown creating the need for extra adaptations.

Mr Clark, who has worked there for 9 years, said: “We found that it was very busy because obviously people could not go away on holidays.

“We introduced a one way system and a quiz for the children, all socially distanced. We were amazed with the people who came in and everyone seemed very happy with what we had done.”

Wimborne Model Town will reopen on April 12. For more information visit:
