After a successful return, last year Bournemouth’s well-loved ice rink had to delay this year’s opening after the wet weather.
Located in the lower garden the ice rink is set to open today, with a one-day delay to manage the rink freeze. The rink was built in 7 days to try to hit the deadline because of the winter storms instead of the usual 12 days.
Skate worker, Teuta Cipa, told Buzz that she is expecting the season to be “a lot busier this season as we haven’t even opened and Christmas eve is sold out and much busier as last year people were still concerned about covid, on edge a bit, this year people to seem to be getting fully into the Christmas spirit”.
Last year the ice rink returned for the first time since 2019, the last Christmas before coronavirus changed the world. The return came with a welcome back to the Alpine Bar and an upgrade of an even bigger rink allowing skaters of all degrees to enjoy the activity to its fullest.
The ice rink lightest up the Gardens alongside the Bournemouth Christmas Tree wonderland that turns on tonight. The 60ft walk is lined with multiple light illuminations and installations some paired with audio. The trail connects the Christmas market and pier.
