Plans to demolish Bournemouth Hotel

January 10, 2023 //  by subeditor2

Plans have been submitted for the demolition of a Bournemouth hotel to be replaced with a five-story block of flats.

Plans have been submitted for the demolition of a Bournemouth hotel to be replaced with a five-story block of flats.

The former West Cliff Inn Hotel is currently occupied by The OYO Kingsley Hotel and has faced several negative reviews on Tripadvisor.

A Trip advisor review from a guest of the hotel said: “The worst hotel we have ever stayed in… The first room we were put in was disgustingly dirty – it had a hole in the wall, no curtains or blinds, and no bedside cabinets.

“The TV didn’t work, the carpet was filthy, the skirting boards and corners of the room were so dusty and had definitely not been deep cleaned for COVID-19.”

The hotel is located between the Poole Hill and West Cliff Conservation Area boundary which was devised as a result of the development of Bournemouth as a Victorian holiday resort.

Local resident Fredrica Sindici commented on the development, she said: “There are a lot of people moving to the area so I think the development is a good idea, old hotels would be way too much money to revamp.”

Darryl Howells planning consultancy has been instructed to prepare a planning application for the redevelopment of the site.

The plan is to build a five-storey block of 23 flats and 6 holiday flats.

Darryll Howells said: “The reason for the closure is primarily down to the downturn in the tourism market and due to the age of the building investment would not be justifiable.”
