LIVE: Weather and travel across Dorset today

January 20, 2023 //  by Hannah Ramsey

Sub-zero weather over the past week has caused chaos on the roads as icy surfaces become more hazardous.

Traffic and Closures

One lane remains closed on the A31 westbound between Southampton and Ringwood due to a burst water pipe that is under repair.

The lane closure has been causing severe delays with tailbacks as long as seven miles at times and those travelling the route should expect delays.

It is expected that repairs will not be completed until Monday.

Bus delays, as the service 60 is taking a diversion due to the emergency closure of Napier Road, Hamworthy. It is diverting between Lulworth Avenue and Rockley Park via Lake Avenue and Lake Drive.

13:09: Major delays on the A348 southbound, Ringwood Road over the Bear Cross roundabout and through Longham heading towards Magna Road. Delays are up to 25 minutes.

13:43: More major traffic delays, going in and particularly going out of Christchurch on Fairmile Road heading up to Jumpers Common on the B3073.

14.09: A348 Ringwood Road both ways partially blocked, very slow traffic due to accident, two vehicles involved near Longham Farm Close.

15:12: Crash blocks A348 Ringwood Road at Longham. The A348 Ringwood Road is blocked between Longham and Ferndown.

More bus delays, the service 13 bus is currently being delayed by up to 55 minutes. The 14:50 from Wimborne will be starting at Ferndown.

Weather

The Met Office had previously issued yellow weather warning throughout the week of ice and snow, but have now been taken down as there was small amounts of sun seeping through.

Slippery roads and pathways are still treacherous, so gritters have been out and trying to help.

The weekend is set to continue the cold weather, with low temperatures of 6 degrees. However, wind speed and humidity will make the outside feel like -2 degrees.

Keep updated on this page throughout the day.
