This Sunday sees the Bournemouth University Bobcats take on the Bristol Barracuda for their first ever Division 1 playoff game.
After going undefeated last season and being crowned Division 2 Southern Champions, the Bobcats look to continue their success, having only lost one game in the last 2 calendar years, contrary to many people’s predictions.
When asked about the team’s performance this season, offensive captain Aaron Taylor said, “We’ve gone above some people’s expectations. People thought we would struggle more than we have, but we’ve just kept our heads down.”
Bournemouth hold a 66-6 advantage over their 2 matchups with the 4-4 Cuda during the regular season, with two dominant performances the team wish to replicate this Sunday at Chapel Gate.
The last time Cuda visited Bournemouth, the Bobcats dominated on both sides of the ball, as well as special teams, with game MVP Fabio Gama scoring two kick-off return touchdowns.
Despite not being challenged by the Bristol side yet, BU are ready for the best Barracuda performance yet. Defensive captain Cormac Meade said: “We never know what’s going to happen, we just have to take every rep as it comes and play for the person next to us.” Thus making it clear that the very familiar Cuda side are not being overlooked.
The Bobcats are coming off a performance that Meade said: “Put their name on the map.”, outscoring local rivals Southampton Stags 35-0, in a game live streamed to over 1000 viewers.
The highly anticipated first-round playoff game will take place this Sunday at 1pm at Chapel Gate, Bournemouth, where the home side look to move on in the tournament, where they will play the winner of the Hertfordshire Hurricanes and the Exeter Demons.
