Popular Bournemouth nightclub Popworld is now hosting Bachata dance classes every Tuesday evening.

The company, Bachata Connection, has moved to the venue since gaining popularity and more members.

Organisers and dance teachers Julia Sulimenko and Andrew Barnetson have been dancing for many years but started dancing together a year and a half ago.

They believe the venue is ideal for them.

Andrew said: “It’ so vibrant and there’s so much energy involved here, it’s just perfect for a dance venue.”

Their classes range from beginner to intermediate, so they are open to all abilities.

Starting from January 9, the company is also running a fast-track four-week beginner course for people who want to progress quicker.

Sometimes when you have a lot of issues going on in your life, you just come on the dance floor and leave everything behind.

The organisers promote how dancing can simply lift people spirits, emphasising the positive impact it has on mental health.

Julia said: “It’s a great way of communicating and creating a community that helps each other, not only on the dance floor, but also in life.

“Sometimes when you have a lot of issues going on in your life, you just come on the dance floor and leave everything behind.”

Bachata Connection’s first class at Popworld saw over a dozen members attend, with a few new faces getting involved.

Valentia Valev was attending his second class with the company and agreed that dancing helps his well-being.

Valentia said: “My brain is too busy thinking about where my feet and hands are to think about the rest of my life, so it relaxes me from my day to day but at the same time you’ve got to concentrate on your routine.”

The dance company is advocating for more students in the area to attend their classes and is currently running promotional discounts.
