Bournemouth-based boxing champion Chris Billam-Smith stops Mateusz Masternak in the eighth round to defend his WBO cruiserweight title on Sunday.

Masternak was up on the judges’ scorecards going into their final round, displaying a better overall work-rate and winning by five rounds to two.

However, Billam-Smith caught the contender with some powerful body shots at the end of the seventh round, which caused a serious muscle tear in his ribs, forcing a stoppage.

Lee Cutler, also from Bournemouth, beat Daniel Egbunike by unanimous decision for the vacant English super welterweight title on the undercard.

Billam-Smith has been calling out Richard Riakporhe, his only professional loss, for his next bout.
