How can we help the homeless facing discrimination?

Local volunteer urging for more people to help the homeless facing discrimination and anti-social behaviour.

The BCP region has the fifth highest rate of homelessness in South West.

A lot of people who are homeless face discrimination, and have negative stereotypes associated with drugs and alcohol usage.

This often leads to the mistreatment and neglect of the homeless, who may have ended up on the streets due to unfortunate and inevitable circumstances.

Daniel Parkin, 53, is a community volunteer and Trustee of Purbeck Youth & Community Foundation. He volunteers for ‘We are humans‘, a charity dedicated to homelessness.

Daniel is encouraging more people to help the homeless, by fundraising, donating to local charities or providing warm clothes.

It’s vital for the public to help in any way as he said that “it’s not something the council can do on their own.”

He added:

“It’s the joy you get when you see a smile on someone’s face because you’ve helped them, it’s priceless.”
