Hundreds gather to protest against Poole Park entrance closure

January 22, 2024 //  by Kirsten Todd

Protesting against Poole Park closure plans

The council’s proposal to close one of the main entrances to Poole park caused controversy with members of the community.

A Facebook group page has been campaigning against the Poole Park closure plans. There are currently around 1.1k members on the page.

On the 20th January, over 200 people gathered together at Poole Park to protest against the council’s plans.

The decision to close the entrance was based on factors such as ‘reducing vehicle movements, noise and air pollution and creating a safer park environment’, according to the BCP council website.

The public have argued that there were never any problems, and closing the entrance will increase emissions as vehicles have to travel further to get to the park.

Geoff Beck, Poole resident, set up the Facebook page and feels very strongly against the closure.

He suffers with a disability which means he is unable to cycle, and the closure will impact him personally.

“We’ve got a local policeman who’s retired…he has never been called out to any incident of collision or pedestrian incidents in 30 years working in the police.”
