AFC Bournemouth Women extended their 100% win record in the league to 10 games this weekend after beating third place Swindon Town 3-0.
New signing Kenni Thompson started for the Cherries on the right hand side of the front three to make her first appearance for Bournemouth since joining the club last week.
Bournemouth began the game the sharper of the two sides and took the lead after just 11 minutes after a clever Katie James backheel landed at the feet of striker Lucy Cooper, who slotted the ball past keeper Emily McGrogan to make it 1-0.
After scoring their first the Cherries remained keen to attack, finding success down the wings with Thompson and Gemma McGuiness.
Thompson came inches away from scoring her first goal for Bournemouth, connecting with an Abby Jones cross that struck the side netting.
Moments later, Thompson struck home to double the Cherries lead, making it a debut to remember after skipping past the Swindon defence before placing the ball into the bottom right corner before half time to make for a memorable debut.
Bournemouth began the second half much like how they played the first and for the most part kept visitors Swindon out of the game.
Kenni Thompson continued to shine in her first appearance, troubling the Swindon defence at every opportunity before being replaced by Chloe Gilroy after 73 minutes.
The Cherries continued to create chance after chance in the second half including a long range effort from McGuiness that struck the post.
Bournemouth grabbed themselves a third with six minutes remaining, with Molly Barron-Clark improvising brilliantly after a slip to head the ball to Alisha Buckingham, who scored from close range to seal the deal for Steve Cuss’ side.
“It’s always great to help out the team” Said debutant Kenni Thompson.
“Whether it’s a goal or an assist, on or off the pitch – it’s really special to come straight in, get a goal and help out the team” She added.
Manager Steve Cuss was also impressed with the Bermudan.
“She did very well and showed what she’s all about – I’m absolutely delighted that she’s gotten her debut and a goal with it and hopefully we’ll continue to see her develop.” Said the manager.
Bournemouth remain second in the league after Sunday’s victory, trailing Exeter City who also have an 100% win record after playing a game more than the Cherries. The two sides face each other next in a top of the table clash.
