A man has been charged with a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years, after brutally killing his ex-girlfriend on 12th May 2023.
Alberto Fioletti, 31, was sentenced at the Bournemouth Crown court on 15th January after he stabbed his ex-partner, Stephanie Hodgkinson, 7 times which resulted in fatality. He then attempted to wound himself with a different knife before calling an ambulance to the scene.
Stephanie was becoming more aware of his erratic behaviour during their relationship and ended it for the safety of her children.
When Fioletti tried to restore their relationship with flowers and a card, Stephanie rejected the offer which led to her brutal attack.
Sally Powell, the mother of Stephanie, described the crime as a ‘horrible senseless act of evilness’.
‘I was told the news that no mother wanted to hear.’
‘I will never get the image out of my head of what you did to my baby.’
34-year-old Stephanie was ‘kind, compassionate and caring’, according to her mother, and was a co-parent to 2 children.
The father of her children gave a live statement at the court and looked at the defendant when he said: ‘I hope your actions live with you and give you nightmares for your life.’
‘Her children waved goodbye to her in the playground and never saw her again.’
Fioletti was diagnosed with an ‘unstable personality disorder’ from a young age, and had been in psychotherapy for 15 years on and off.
This disorder was taken into consideration as being ‘significant’ but not ‘substantial’ enough to justify his behaviour, according to Dr. Cummings, his therapist.
As he was a medically trained Veterinary, Judge Susan Evans KC described him as a ‘highly intelligent man’ multiple times, and Stephanie’s mother claimed ‘You were a trained surgeon, you knew exactly what you were doing’, which overruled his mental disorder being the sole reason for the attack.
Judge Susan Evans KC gave Fioletti a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years.
