England head coach Sarina Wiegman insisted she will cherish winning the European Championship with the Lionesses but is firmly focused on earning more success.
Wiegman’s side face Germany this evening for the first time since beating their historic rivals to lift their first-ever major trophy in 2022.
“We will always cherish that,” said Wiegman. “It was one of the biggest moments of my career and of my life.”
But Wiegman is adamant that the focus of her players is now on tonight’s game at Wembley.
“Germany has always been a very powerful team, very physical too,” she said.
“They’ve got a new coach now so that’s a challenge for us.”
Germany are under new management in Christian Wuck, who has coached various age groups for the DFB for over a decade.
The friendly is set to be played out in front of a crowd of around 54,000 and Lionesses captain Leah Williamson believes the figure is further proof of the progress of the women’s game.
“To play two games so close to one another at Wembley three, four years ago, it wouldn’t have happened,” Williamson said.
Wiegman has admitted she has a selection dilemma this evening, saying: “It’s a headache because they’re all really good and are really competing for minutes.
“We also know there’s six or seven months to go and thing can change very quickly in football.”
