Landslip from heavy rainfall deals damage to beach huts

A section of the cliffs at Durley Chine in Bournemouth fell on to the beach huts.

The area has now been cordoned off for an inspection and will be checked by Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Council’s Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Team after Wednesday’s collapse.

Local resident Claire Simmons, 32, said, “It’s a bit scary that things like this could happen. I hope it gets fixed and the owners are okay.”

A path has been made for civilians to walk around the incident

Regular beach goer, Andrew Stevens  added that he would be disappointed if he was one of the beach hut owners. The 48-year-old urged that, “something should be done so stuff like this won’t happen again.”

Two beach huts seemed to take the most damage from the landslip

According to the UK Governments Environment Agency, rainfall on the south coast has been over 45mm in the last week and river flow was recorded as ‘exceptionally high’ following severe weather.
