The Poole Pirates capped off an incredible 2024 season earlier this week by winning the KO Cup to secure an impressive treble.
It adds to the BSN Series and Championship titles that they have already won.
In the second leg of the final, which took place at Wimborne Road, the Pirates already had a strong grasp over the Cheetahs after a big 57-33 win in the first leg away from home last week.
After winning the first leg, Pirates boss Neil Middleditch said: “There was still work to do, and celebrations must be stalled until the second leg has been played.”
In the second leg of the final at Wimborne Road, the Pirates produced another professional performance where they beat a patched-together Oxford side which included five guest riders.
The first 5-1 of the night went Poole’s way in the fourth as Tom Brennan took the chequered flag ahead of Foord in the second, with the aggregate lead extending to 32 points for the home side.
Ben Cook took another race victory in heat five, as the points were shared three each, before Lawson soared to his second win on the night in the sixth, with Sam Hagon crossing third to give Poole the heat, 4-2.
The first crash of the night came in the tenth as Dan Gilkes hit the deck, but he was straight up and attempted to clear the track of the approaching riders.
The Pirates ended up winning the second leg by the same margin as the first leg which concluded with the Pirates winning the KO cup 114-66 on aggregate.
The title was confirmed after just eight heats on the night of the second leg at Wimborne Road, with excellent performances from Sam Hagon and Vinnie Foord.
Daniel Jones, a fan of the Pirates, was over the moon after the Pirates secured the victory in the second leg and made themselves treble winners.
He said: “I’ve been following the Pirates for a long time now and it’s amazing to see that we’ve won three trophies already this year, it’s what you dream of as a fan.”
The Pirates will certainly be hoping that they can repeat their treble-winning season in 2025.
