AFC Bournemouth Women triumphed in their top-of-the-table clash against Swindon Town Women at the Vitality Stadium to extend their 100% start to the league season.
The empathic 4-0 win on Sunday (10 November) means Cherries are eight out of eight in the FA Women’s National League Division One South West.
A first half double from player-of-the-match Katie James was followed by strikes from fellow midfielder Molly Barron-Clark and a penalty won and scored by substitute Erin Bloomfield after the break.
Swindon Town remain top of the league despite the loss, although Bournemouth have two games in hand over the league leaders and are just one point behind.
The match began after a minute of silence to remember those who gave their lives throughout the two world wars and other conflicts.
A bugle sounded the Last Post throughout the stadium and wreaths were placed on the Vitality Stadium pitch.
The bumper crowd of 6,054 fans saw Cherries make and squander a string of chances before winger Gemma McGuinness laid off the ball to James, who found the back of the net from the right side of the box in the 34th minute.
Six minutes later James doubled the lead with an even more spectacular finish as she hit a screamer from 30 yards out that took a slight deflection on its way past Swindon Town goalkeeper Hannah Cox.
Ellie Strippel’s low ball into the heart of the box was finished neatly by Barron-Clark to make it 3-0 in the 65th minute before Bloomfield completed the scoring from the penalty spot in the 75th minute after she had been tripped by Katie Sherwood as the pair chased a through ball.
The impact substitute, who had only been on the pitch for five minutes, slotted the ball down the middle, sending Cox the wrong way.
Next Sunday (17 November), AFC Bournemouth Women travel to play Portishead Town.
