AFC Bournemouth Development Squad take on Brentford u21s tonight, in the Premier League Cup, at Wyatt Homes Stadium.
Bournemouth come into this game bottom of Group I in the tournament, with Brentford sitting in second.
The Cherries won their first game of the competition away to Derby, but have since fallen to three losses, one being a demolition by Chelsea in October.
A big issue for the Bournemouth academy teams is the current injury crisis the first team are having, seven academy players featured on the bench in the Premier League on Saturday.
The game will be hosted at local non-league club Wimborne Town, the club will host all of Bournemouth’s PL cup games including the match against Derby County later this week.
Wimborne have a good relationship with AFC Bournemouth and former Bournemouth employees Jimmy Glass as General manager, and Joe Roach as the newly appointed Director of Academy.
Co-owner, Lee Merrifield, acknowledges the role that appointing the likes of Jimmy Glass had in developing a relationship with AFC Bournemouth.
Merrifield said: “We first talked to AFCB before we moved to the new ground we moved to the new ground [Wyatt Homes Stadium] but a tie up didn’t get going at the time.”
“However, we were able to restart the discussions when Jimmy Glass joined us… using his contacts at the club which also coincided with AFCB needing somewhere more suitable to play their Development Squad games.”
Wimborne Town were promoted last season and are now compete in the Southern Premier. The club have made big steps to progress in recent times.
Merrifield said: “We’re proud to host their games as its prestigious for us to host a Premier League club’s Development Squad games. It also brings new supporters to our ground as evidenced by a crowd of over 1,000 for the Premier League Cup game against Chelsea.”
The game is a 7pm kick-off at Wyatt Homes Stadium, Wimborne. It is free entry.
