AFC Bournemouth Women have Maidenhead Game Postponed

AFC Bournemouth Women had their away game against Maidenhead postponed on Sunday due to the sub-zero temperatures freezing The Magpies’ home pitch.

This makes it The Cherries’ second consecutive fixture to be called off, and their fifth of the season; they are yet to play a game in 2025.

Head coach Steve Cuss said postponed fixtures are frustrating, but it gives the team a unique opportunity: “We had every player in [training] on Sunday, and the Sunday previous as well, when the two games were called off. We look at it as an opportunity to get some game play into the players.

“We’re fortunate that we’re able to use the dome at the new AFC Bournemouth training ground and we’re in there playing internal matches with the whole of the first team squad”.

AFC Bournemouth Women are currently unbeaten in Division One South West, with nine wins from nine; the Cherries are just four points behind league leaders Swindon with six games in hand.

Cuss was seemingly concerned about the prospect of fitting in so many extra games into their calendar: “We’ve got five games now outstanding that haven’t been given dates as yet.

“We’ve got a big squad as well and we’re going to have to utilise that big squad.

“It’s a little concerning that we’re behind but we just try and control what we can and our next game is the most important one.”

The Cherries missed out on promotion last season by just two points despite going the whole season unbeaten.

Steve Cuss’ Bournemouth side will definitely have their eyes set on promotion to the Southern Premier Division which could see them play sides like Ipswich Town, AFC Wimbledon and Hashtag United.
