Councillors at BCP Council voted to join the Heart of Wessex at the Civic Centre last night.
They had the choice of whether BCP created devolution arrangements with the Heart of Wessex – made up of Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire councils – or with Hampshire, which includes Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.
Leader of the BCP council Cllr Millie Earl stood in favour of Wessex and said: “We would be a significant part of the Heart of Wessex.”
She outlined three reasons why: opportunities for growth, geography and shared services, and the identity of BCP.
