Sheffield United have re-signed Chile international Ben Brereton Diaz from Southampton on a loan-deal until the end of the season.
The 25-year-old spent the end of last season on loan at the Blades scoring six in 16 appearances in the Premier League.
In a statement via the club’s website, Sheffield United Manager Chris Wilder said:
“Ben will be an important player for us in the second half of the season […], we would have loved to have kept him but the Southampton move was too good to turn down.”
Brereton Diaz has fallen out of favour at Southampton, making just 14 appearances for the Saints with zero goal contributions, after signing from Villarreal in 2024 for seven million pounds.
A stark contrast from his time at Blackburn Rovers, that saw the forward net 45 goals in 144 league appearances for the championship side.
He leaves the club in a bleak time for the Saints, picking up just six points in 22 games this season and sitting at the bottom of the league.
With a return to a familiar face, Brereton Diaz could sign for the Blades on a permanent basis at the end of the loan spell if the Chilean impresses.
Southampton look to pick up points in their next fixture against Newcastle United in the Premier League without Brereton Diaz.
