Beryl Bikes to pull out of East Dorset

The Bike hire business Beryl are pulling their services out of the east Dorset area specifically in Ferndown, West Parley, Colehill and Wimborne at the end of February.

This means beryl will remove all 122 of the bikes they had in that area. They also have 43 bays for the bikes in the area.

Dorset Council was informed of the decision from Beryl. It comes as the company would need additional funding to maintain the service due to a lack in customers in the East Dorset area. This is due to more people in the area using their own bikes to travel rather than renting as around 500 people per day are using new cycleways daily.

Beryl and Dorset Council are looking into whether the service will be kept in some form
for example for local businesses to use. But both are continuing to work together to
maintain the scheme in the areas with high use such as Dorchester, Weymouth and
Portland.
