Bournemouth police station are closing more regularly due to staff layoffs and underfunding before the release of the Office for National Statistics survey.
According to the Dorset police website, Bournemouth Police station is closed daily from 1pm to 2pm and will also be closed for the whole of the 16th of February.
The police station may also be closing periodically till the 20th of January due to staff shortages.
Martyn Underhill was the police commissioner in Bournemouth for nine years. He thinks that the reason for the issues staying open is “pretty obvious – the government cut funding.”
He thinks that “it will definitely affect the satisfaction of the general public”, however he doesn’t expect it will affect the crime numbers.
According to Mr Underhill, it’s likely to get worse before it gets better, with policing being unlikely to get more funding.
“Policing is not in that bubble that will get more money,” he says.
Poole police station has also been hit by staff shortages and is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. It is also closed on the 16th , 20th, 22nd , 23rd of January.
The ONS survey will be published later this month on the 30th of January.
